ELMORE FAMILY

 Henry Henry Marshall Elmore, son of John Archr Elmore (soldier in the American Revolution, Virginia) and Mary Ann Martin Elmore, was born in Laurens County, South Carolina, on January 28, 1816. At an early age his family moved to Autauga County, Alabama (later named Elmore County honoring John Archer Elmore). Henry Marshall Elmore received his education at the University of Alabama (Tuscaloosa). He held various positions of importance in the County of Macon (County Judge and served in the Alabama Legislature). Henry Marshall Elmore was first married to Mrs. Elizabeth Fitzpatrick Harres on June 26, 1838 (born February 8, 1816, died October 12, 1859). She was the daughter of Joseph Fitzpatrick and Sarah Tranum, the niece of the ninth governor of Alabama, Governor Benjamin Fitzpatrick.

 Elmore mit seiner FrauIn 1853 Henry Marshall Elmore and his wife, Elizabeth Fitzpatrick Elmore and their children moved to Waverly in Walker County, Texas. He was a Colonel in the Civil War. Though not a young man, he organized an commanded the Twentieth Regiment of the Texas Volunteers and was stationed in Galveston for the protection of the Port of Galveston. His regiment was often referred to as the "Feather-bed Regiment" because of its easy duty. Mr. Elmore served as President of the Board of Trustees for the Waverly Male and Female Institute for a number of years. He was active in the Waverly Methodist Church, having donated the land on which the church was built. He stood high in his community, was most hospitable and generous in gifts for the good of education.

 Elizabeth Fitzpatrick Elmore died October 12, 1859. there were ten children born to this union. Only five lived to reach maturity. Henry Marshall Elmore´s second marriage was to Mrs. Mary DeArmond on December 23, 1861 (no children).

 Henry Marshall Elmore died January 17, 1879. He and his wife, Elizabeth Fitzpatrick Elmore, are vuried in the Waverly Cemetery.

 The children of Henry Marshall and Elizabeth Fitzpatrick Elmore: (1) Joseph Fitzpatrick (1840-1862) the oldest son, killed in the Battle of the Wilderness in Virginia (Civil War). (2) A daughter died in infancy in 1841. (3) Sara Ann Elmore (1842-?). (4) John Archer Elmore (1844-1845). (5) Elizabeth Tabetha Elmore (1846-1923) married Dr. Henry Rugeley (1838-1925) of Bay City, Texas. (6) Henry Marshall Elmore, Jr. (1847-1875) married Sarah Martha Fisher (1853-1935) no children. (7) William Agustus Elmore (1849-1890) married Emma Winfred Traylor (1847-1934). (8) Phillip Ludlow Elmore (1851-1880). (9) Hamlin Lewis Elmore (1853-1854). (10) John Archer Elmore (1856-1915) married Lelia Rugeley (1863-1895), 2nd) married Rose Howell.
